Cláudia Schwartz’s harassment training sessions engage supervisors in a unique way.  While meeting  training requirements under California law, Cláudia builds interaction into harassment training sessions by using:

  •  Thought-provoking questions based on “real life situations” and case law
  • "Games" that draw participants’ attention but do not make them feel uncomfortable
  • Impactful “real life” stories told from her perspective as a head of HR, investigator, expert witness, and EEOC consent decree consultant
  • Handouts, including those used to document participants’ learning and commitment to adhering to company policy and legal expectations

As required by California law, the training is designed to last two hours and emphasizes sexual harassment.  At the same time, the session addresses harassment, discrimination and retaliation based on any characteristic or right protected under state law.  Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Why training and prevention matter
  • Remedies available to those who are subject to harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
  • Liability (including individual liability)
  • Related charges
  • California vs. federal standards
  • What is considered harassment (definitions)
  • Who it may involve and where it may occur
  • How it may happen
  • What supervisors should and should not do
  • Steps supervisors can take when they become aware of possible harassment

Cláudia Schwartz’s goal is to make the training session as easy as possible for the HR team at the client company.  She provides the following materials:

  • Sample announcement HR can send participants to ask them to attend the training
  • Handouts for every participant, including:
    • Legally required Department of Fair Employment and Housing pamphlet
    • Knowledge assessment test
    • Acknowledgment and commitment form for participants to sign and the company to keep on
  • LCD projector (unless the company prefers to use its own) and lap-top computer
"Harassment" Training for Employees - "Respect in the Workplace"
The session goes beyond legal requirements, triggering thought-provoking dialogue with employees about assumptions and behaviors that cause most issues in the workplace related to harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. The session focuses on practical application and not on legal concepts which may turn training into a liability.
